Two Big Cheers for Health

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

This month, the September 2010 issue of Health magazine is a new redesign and a thick juicy issue full of great stuff. I’m proud to say that two of my stories hit the issue this month.

First is my sort of “Call me crazy that I don’t like to vacuum naked” essay on what makes some people “naked types” versus people like me, who sometimes sleeps in flannel pajamas with a wool hat and socks when it’s cold out. I can’t show you the whole story as it’s not up online yet, but if you want to read the whole piece (you should!) perhaps this “Let me Google that for you” search will pull it up.

Also in the issue, my cover interview with Molly Sims, the model, actress and now jewelry designer. We had a very chill chat at the L.A. SoHo House, which I know believe can claim the best view of Los Angeles. Guess I need to start sidling up to some other members so I can roll in there more often. Here’s the first spread of the piece, which you can read on that link above to the magazine’s web site.

Hope you enjoy both stories as much as I loved writing them!

10 Couples We Can’t Help But Respect

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

You don’t have to like them. You don’t have to do love the way they do love. But you have to admit, you can’t help but respect them for it. Well, at least these are my votes for 10 Famous Couples We Respect, just published on Match.com’s Happen magazine.

When Press Gets Press…

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I always love to see that someone I’ve interviewed for a magazine is getting even further press for themselves and their projects when other media outlets pick up the story.

My favorite surprise was late last week when I opened up my Yahoo and saw Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks trending as the #1 News story for her quotes in my Health magazine interview with Christina Hendricks. Go Christina!

My Vanessa Hudgens Interview

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

The August 2010 issue of Glamour magazine is out, and on it? My cover interview with High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens. We spent a day having lunch and shopping at Barney’s (it was a heck of a lucky shopping day for her) and chatting. We talked about her house in L.A., her acting aspirations and her cute boyfriend Zac—who, by the way, I finally “got” when I saw the film 17 Again and thought, “Oh, so this is why everyone thinks Zac Efron is so cute.” A lucky girl indeed.

A Cool Chat with Christina Hendricks

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

The new July/August issue of Health magazine features my interview with the star of one of my favorite shows: Christina Hendricks of Mad Men. It was a fun, refreshing interview, because Christina is no Joan Holloway!

See the full interview at Health.com here: Christina Hendricks: Curvy, Confident, Gorgeous.

I had a great chat about a week ago with Joanna Philbin, the daughter of one of the funniest hosts on television, Regis. She just published the first book in a three-book series for young women called The Daughters. The rest of the series starts rolling out in November, and this one’s really cute. She’s a great writer and a cool chick.

So check out my Joanna Philbin profile as it just appeared in The New York Post.

What Their Bodies Feel Like When…

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I totally forgot to tell you about the interviews I did for the awesome Health magazine for a story they did called “What It Feels Like…” featuring different actresses, dancers and hosts. I got to be a part of writing up their experiences for the January/February 2010 issue. The two women I spoke to:

Carrie Ann Inaba (who was so much fun to chat with, I could have talked to her for hours!) talked about “What My Body Really Feels Like…In Motion.” Jennifer Love Hewitt, who has her own dating book out this month, talked about “What My Body Really Feels Like…When I’m Afraid.”

Here are my pieces from the magazine:

I must say, spending my days getting paid to talk to cool, smart, accomplished women isn’t too bad. :)

Amanda Seyfried: Down-to-Earth Glamour

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

This month’s Glamour magazine features three glamorous actresses, and I was lucky enough to interview one of them: Amanda Seyfried (the other two covers feature Zoe Saldana and Leighton Meister).

My interview appears in the April 2010 issue, which you can pick up. You can also read the whole interview online at Glamour.com or click on the image here:

She’s a very cool, sweet, funny, natural girl (who now owns THE cutest dog named Finn) and I wish her the best in her career. I hope I’ll be lucky enough to catch up with her again as she rises to the top the of the acting barrel, which I’m certain she will.

Yes, I WOULD Buy Clothes From This Man!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I had a great interview with actor David Arquette the other day in his showroom in Los Angeles to talk about his clothing line, propr.

The company—founded with musician Ben Harper and David Bedwell, former creative director for Original Penguin—is now two years old, but is expanding to new stores this spring. And I gots to say: I love the stuff! I got a shirt for my husband, a nice woven pink and white striped button down that he’s already worn twice in four days. I think he wants to sleep in it, too, which would probably be fine…except that I kinda want to sleep in it, too.

It was a pure pleasure talking to David and seeing the showroom, full of his vintage clothes and collectibles, all of which make clear what a true artist David really is: He paints, he designs, he silkscreens, he acts, and he’s even learning the trumpet right now. And it was refreshing to learn how funny and real he was. Courteney Cox is one lucky gal, I tell ya. Here’s the David Arquette propr interview in The New York Post.

Katy Perry: Her “Christmas Eve Jitters”

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

There’s a new theme going on in my star interviews: Sometimes, they get engaged right after I interview them. It happened with actress Maria Bello when I interviewed her for a Page Six magazine cover last year, and this past month, right after I interviewed singer Katy Perry for the cover of Glamour magazine, she traveled to India and got engaged to her boyfriend Russell Brand. I mean, I’m not claiming to have any super-ring-powers, but if there’s such thing as a good love charm, I’ll take it!

Katy had some pretty cute things to say about how seeing Russell gives her the “Christmas Eve jitters,” and I also posted a great quote about how she considers Russell her other half—like a half-orange—which you can see here on The Dating Optimist.

You can find the Katy Perry Glamour interview here, or by clicking on the first page of the story below, or if you—gasp—buy the magazine. :)

It really is worth reading. I gained super-respect for the 25-year-old—she’s a wise soul in an ingenue’s body. Read the article to find out more.
